Frequently Asked Questions

I’ve never gone to therapy before or I’m new to trying out another therapy approach besides talk therapy. What can I expect?

I get how scary it can be to try something new. If you are reading this I applaud you for the courage it takes to  even consider going deeper and the curiosity it takes to explore a new way of healing. My approach is very invitational and gentle and I highly value and encourage you listening to yourself, your experience and your needs and letting that guide our work. You are the expert of your experience and I welcome learning from you. I welcome you and all parts of you.

In our work together, we will talk and explore together, learn about how previous experiences may be impacting your current functioning or situation. I’ll help you explore and connect with your strengths and inner resiliency so to help influence the problems you are facing.

How does it work? What do I have to do in sessions?

Because each person has different issues and goals for therapy, it will be different depending on the individual. I tailor my therapeutic approach to your specific needs. I find clients get the most out of sessions when they can show up with an openness to get-to-know themselves and a curiosity to try new things.

It is very important to me that my clients feel comfortable in session so I will often take a moment to ensure my client’s are comfortable, can adjust or access anything they’re needing to settle in like some water, a pillow, adjusting the light, etc.

How long will it take?

Everyone’s circumstances are unique to them and the length of time therapy can take to allow you to accomplish your goals depends on your desire for personal development, your commitment, and the factors that are driving you to seek therapy in the first place. In order to build momentum and teach you some skills for at-home use I like to work with clients 1x per week initially for a minimum of 10-12 weeks before we discuss reducing the frequency of sessions.

I want to get the most out of therapy. What can I do to help?

I am so glad you are dedicated to getting the most out of your sessions. Your active participation and dedication will be crucial to your success. I will introduce some calming tools to you in our sessions and I find that the more clients use these tools at home the greater their ability to recover and reclaim their sense of calm. At times I also encourage homework assignments to further work on growth and goals in-between sessions.
